The above trains always include a certain amount of service, including coffee, tea, sodas, newspapers (in Danish), phones, working places, etc.; and perhaps most important, a reasonable guarantee for accuracy. Other regional trains at different prices and service levels are possible, please ask locally at any train station or travel agency in Denmark.

Other travelling possibilities for many Europeans would be to jump a private or hired car and find your way to Odense, an easy task with international Motor High Way's from any Danish border right onto Odense. Hint: If you're going to rent a car anyway, for the pleasure of companion persons, you'll save quite some money by doing this outside Denmark. Take a train or a flight close the the boarder of Denmark, for example Hamborg, Flensborg, Malmo or Helsingborg, and rent your car there.

Hotels

Please communicate directly with the hotel, concerning an order of a room, your selves at your preference. All prices are special offers, and might have changed, so they are only here as guidelines.

About Fyn and Odense, for companion persons.

Companion persons are most welcome at any age. The island of Fyn is considered to be 'The Garden of Denmark', and its small scale landscapes variations with rolling hills, gentle beech woods, cozy villages and nowhere more than half an hour car drive to the smiling open sea, is extremely well suited for family holidays. Do not forget the southern islands, connected to Fyn, as well. The smaller they get, the more of a lost world and family friendly surroundings you'll find. Go there!

Cultural life at Fyn and in Odense is quite rich, historically and still. Odense is perhaps known worldwide as the birth place of the fairy story tale teller Hans Christian Andersen and of the composer Carl Nielsen. They both have mastered the art of noting the great wonders in little things, and at the same time in intimate and strong ways been able to share it with all of us. Their inspiration is undoubtedly taken from and reflects the landscapes, the people and the lifestyle at Fyn. Go grasp the realm of this and visit the places and museums of these great artists. Don't forget the several other local possibilities, including living painting, music and photography.

Or take a trip to Kerteminde, a typical minor danish town by the sea, where little houses, fishing boats, modern marines, beaches, local painter Johannes Larsen Museum, the 'Fjord og Bælt Center' is situated. In here you will find all of the local maritime world, where you can touch fish, see living local whales, have a panorama underwater view of the open sea; have a look at Internet address 'http://www.fjord-baelt.dk' for special arrangements. After Kerteminde, if you get any further that day, take a stroll down the coast, have a glimpse of the new bridge, second largest in the world, 18 km's long and with towers, reaching 250 m towards the sky.

Or decide to head for a castle trip on Southern Fyn, where so many major farms and minor castles with each their ghost and flavour are found. Pick for example 'Egeskov Castle' for a major visit. The buildings, the park, the very fine rose gardens, Piet Hein's elegant sun watch, the old car museum, the open air labyrinths etc. are open for hours of family enjoyment. Or make a whole day Castle Tour, including also 'Tranekjær Castle' at the island of 'Langeland' south of Fyn. Remember to take a walk in the park, where several out door pieces of garden art, to be touched and smelled and walked through are found. Se some more castles on the way back, among these 'Brahe Trolleborg Castle' and its park. Spend some time in the landscapes in between or at some coast, while trying to understand, from where Hans Christian Andersen and Carl Nielsen got their inspiration and strength.

Going beyond Fyn, there's a pleasant day trip to LEGOLand in Billund, where kids will spend days, no need for further advertisement in this case. - There's a good historic route through Jelling with the tombs of our ancient Viking Kings are buried more than a millennium ago. Our present queen in this oldest kingdom in the world is a direct descent from these Viking Kings. - There's an interesting day trip to Roskilde, where many later and recent kings have their last rest in the cathedral, and not least where a major and modern Wiking Museum with several great boats, exhibitions, movies and views tell about the time, when Denmark was considered a major empire in Europe and beyond. What is more important, it tells about a people of magnificent craftsmen and seamen and of todays living efforts to learn more about the period. As a historical fact do remember, that if anybody else than the Indian people 'discovered' America, it was certainly not Columbus, it was the Northern Wikings - There's a mind blowing day trip to the magnificent 'Vesterhav' (The Northern Sea), the ocean in the west, where the scale of nature and of man is set right. Please be humble to the force of it and DO NOT go more than a few meters out without extreme care, and DO NOT think you're indisputably capable of saving anyone on your own. Be several attentive and reasonably trained adults by the sea and still take care, then it's a beautiful and most spectacular experience. By the way do not leave your car directly on the shore and walk away, the car may be taken by the sea, when you return - And there's of course the possibility of a day trip to other major Danish towns, among these Århus and Copenhagen, which are both reached in less than one and a half hour by comfortable trains.

But why go anywhere far away, when this 'extremely Danish' island of Fyn and its millennium old central city of Odense has so much to offer. Besides aforementioned culture, known to the world, go visit the open air museum 'Den Fynske Landsby', and perhaps stay for the evening open air theatre, always a Hans Christian Andersen musical played by children; go to the most lovely Zoo, perhaps continue with a sailing trip on Odense Å running through the garden; visit the Railway museum or one of several minor other museums; choose a concert or a theatre piece; go down town shopping. By lunch and dinner time, choose among several splendid restaurants, of which 'Sortebro Kro', situated by the open air museum or 'Den Gamle Kro' (The Old Inn), situated down town, are but two possibilities of high international standard. If you are doing home cooking and want local specialities, 'brunsviger' is a must at the morning table, while fresh caught herrings and shrimps, 'rygeost' (smoked cheese) and of course an 'Albani beer' and a 'snaps' is a must at the lunch table. It is good local habit to take your time, actually an abundance of time together with family and good friends while having your lunch. And your dinner, too. And your life, too.

Welcome to Denmark and not least Odense and Fyn.

Weather

Well, you never know in Denmark. But usually around 0 degrees Celsius in day time, varying with pleasant sun and cooling rain or snow. Be prepared for either kind of clothing. Bathing water temperatures are only good for Scandinavians.
